DBU REPORT 2 VISION STATEMENT Building a great Christian university that is pleasing to God by producing Christcentered servant leaders who are transforming the world. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Dallas Baptist University is to provide Christ-centered quality higher education in the arts, sciences, and professional studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to traditional age and adult students in order to produce servant leaders who have the ability to integrate faith and learning through their respective callings. A Commentary on the Mission Statement of Dallas Baptist University by Dr. David Naugle DBU IS COMMITTED AS A COMMUNITY OF FAITH AND LEARNING… “The result of this program of education is the formation of whole persons who have developed a Christian mind, and who have the character, knowledge, and competencies to pursue their personal and professional callings as servant leaders who transform the creation and culture in patterning themselves after the service and leadership supremely exemplified in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Soli Deo Gloria.”

SUMMER 2025 1 FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friend: As we reflect on the remarkable season God has provided at Dallas Baptist University, I am once again reminded that this institution is not just a place of academic excellence but a beacon of Christ-centered transformation. This issue of the DBU Report captures the heart of our mission—to develop servant leaders who are not only prepared for professional success but are also committed to advancing God’s Kingdom in every sphere of influence. From groundbreaking academic achievements and national championships to the extraordinary stories of faith lived out by our students, alumni, and faculty, we continue to witness God’s hand at work. It is especially meaningful to celebrate milestones like launching the capital campaign for the Carter School of Business, the 20th anniversary of Spring Sing, the expansion of corporate partnerships, and the growth of the Patriot Prayer Partner network. These are not just accomplishments—they are testimonies to the power of prayer, perseverance, and community. As you read these pages, I pray you are encouraged by the evidence of God’s faithfulness and inspired to join us in the calling to integrate faith and learning. Whether you are a student, alumnus, parent, donor, or friend of DBU, you are an essential part of this mission. Your prayers, generosity, and engagement continue to fuel our efforts as we prepare the next generation of Christcentered leaders. May the Lord bless you as we advance together in His purpose. Sincerely, Adam C. Wright, Ph.D. CHRIST-CENTERED COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE FAITH INTEGRATION GLOBALLY MINDED SERVANT LEADERSHIP TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION

SUMMER 2025 5 CELEBRATING A DECADE OF KINGDOM-MINDED ENTREPRENEURSHIP The Lion’s Den DFW Conference in April unified a growing community of investors, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders committed to advancing the Kingdom through transformative business ventures. The two-day conference featured Nick Vujicic, founder of Life Without Limbs, and Henry Kaestner, co-founder of Sovereign’s Capital. The traditional Pitch Competition brought in entrepreneurs who presented mission-driven business ideas to a panel of investors. Bestselling author Candace Cameron Bure awarded the winners and inspired the audience to carry their convictions into the marketplace. Special thanks to the Carter School of Business for elevating the success of the annual event, including Sandra Crawford Williamson, chair of the Marketing Department; Dr. Ross O’Brien, chair of the Entrepreneurship Department; and event coordinator Tamanno Hodjihanova (‘22). DBU REPORT 6 IGE HOSTS RENOWNED AUTHOR AT VERITAS LECTURE SERIES The Institute for Global Engagement hosted pastor and author Russ Ramsey in February for the Veritas Lecture Series, an event designed to bring thought leaders and industry professionals together for dialogue about intriguing topics. Ramsey presented a lecture titled Pursuing Perfection: Michelangelo’s David and Our Hunger for Glory. Ramsey also dialogued with DBU Trustee and Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church at the Fields Dr. Brent Taylor about the intersection of art, suffering, and faith. Ramsey studied at Taylor University and Covenant Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology. He serves as pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church in Tennessee. Ramsey is the author of Rembrandt is in the Wind: Learning to Love Art through the Eyes of Faith and Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart: What Art Teaches Us About the Wonder and Struggle of Being Alive. COLLEGE of EDUCATION DORTHY M. BUSH GALLUP LECTURE SERIES HOSTS DISTINGUISHED GUEST The annual George H. Gallup, Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series brings influential scholars and leaders to campus to engage students and faculty in thought-provoking discussions. The spring event featured Dr. Max Baker-Hytch, a renowned philosopher and senior tutor at the University of Oxford’s Wycliffe Hall who specializes in apologetics, epistemology, and the philosophy of religion. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford and has been awarded two highly competitive postdoctoral research fellowships from Oxford and the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Baker-Hytch focused on the intersection of faith and reason in contemporary philosophical discourse. Dr. Adam C. Wright, president, characterized the remarks of Dr. Baker-Hytch as “a timely and powerful reminder that our Christian worldview can stand firm amidst the ever-present challenges of our day, offering hope and conviction grounded in the truth of Scripture.” Attendees also participated in a Q&A session with Dr. Baker-Hytch. ALTERNATIVE SUPERINTENDENT CERTIFICATION APPROVED Recent approval by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) provides an attractive option for working professionals to pursue a superintendent role after earning a master’s degree and principal certification. Educators can complete their certification in two semesters with a condensed schedule to help them balance their existing professional responsibilities and educational goals. Those who pursue the Alternative Superintendent Certification can also transfer up to 12 hours (four classes) of their coursework into DBU’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) K-12 program. Dr. Larry McHaney, director of Educational Leadership, praised the new program’s commitment to “developing Christ-centered servantleaders in education who will go out to fulfill God’s calling to influence the next generation by shining His light in the world.” For more information, contact eddk12@dbu.edu.

SUMMER 2025 9 WAB President Mary Brigham, Bluebonnet Luncheon Chair Stacey Lake Gould, DBU First Lady Candice Wright, and WAB Executive Director Leslie Moulton Kathleen Hardage, Pam Ratliff, Wendy Doran, Diane Beckham, and Sunni Brookshire Karen Berry, Joy Duncan, Pat Schenkel, and Marilyn Mansfield Each spring, the Dallas Baptist University Women’s Auxiliary Board hosts a special tradition that embodies the spirit of community, celebration, and generosity—the Bluebonnet Luncheon. This year, more than 340 alumni, parents, donors, and friends of DBU gathered in the Hillcrest Great Hall of the John G. Mahler Student Center to take part in an afternoon filled with inspiration, reflection, and support for future Patriots. The luncheon, led by Mrs. Stacey Lake Gould and the Bluebonnet Luncheon Committee, was a powerful testament to the incredible impact of women who continue to champion the mission of DBU through service and giving. Guests were welcomed into a beautifully decorated space where gratitude and joy filled the room. President Adam C. Wright shared an encouraging update on life at DBU, highlighting the ways in which God continues to bless the University and its students. Senior Vice President Jonathan Teat provided an exciting overview of DBU Athletics, celebrating the recent successes across Patriot sports and offering a vision for the future of DBU’s athletic programs. The highlight of the luncheon came through the heartfelt testimonies of seniors Graham Kroll and Sophie Schrock. Each shared personal reflections on their transformative journeys at DBU, offering powerful glimpses into how their time on University Hill shaped their character, strengthened their faith, and prepared them for a life of servant leadership. In addition to celebrating the graduating class, special recognition was given to DBU’s international students, whose diverse backgrounds and experiences continue to enrich the University community. Their stories are a reminder of the global reach of DBU’s mission and the Kingdom impact being made across the world. The event was not only a time of celebration but also an opportunity to invest in future generations. Thanks to the generosity of many, including those who donated tables and purchased centerpieces, significant funds were raised to support scholarships for deserving students. Their contributions ensure that the transformative experience of a Christ-centered education remains accessible to those called to attend DBU. Through the Bluebonnet Luncheon and the faithful service of the Women’s Auxiliary Board, the legacy of generosity and Kingdomminded leadership at Dallas Baptist University continues to flourish—a living testament to the University's mission to produce Christ-centered servant leaders for generations to come. DBU REPORT 10 With the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex emerging as one of the fastest-growing business hubs in America, God has placed DBU at the epicenter of an unprecedented opportunity to capitalize on new and existing partnerships with leading corporations. Corporate Partnerships to Fuel the Future Coupled with this growth is the recent investment of a $20 million gift from the Carter family for the Carter School of Business, elevating the University as the ideal partner for companies seeking top-tier talent and strategic partnerships. “Companies gain access to top talent and innovative research while boosting their brand visibility, and DBU benefits from industry expertise and resources that enrich student learning,” explained Dr. Daniel Edwards, assistant vice president for External Affairs and chair of the Corporate Partnership Council. “This collaboration fuels growth, innovation, and lasting impact for both sides." Expanding DBU’s Corporate Partnership Program ensures unparalleled opportunities for workforce recruiting, research collaborations, philanthropic giving, event sponsorships, and thought leadership initiatives. DBU also recently established the Corporate Partnership Council as a strategic advisory group of representatives from various university departments to streamline communication, strengthen business relationships, and provide companies with tailored engagement opportunities. The council helps corporate partners maximize their impact through customized collaborations that align with both their business goals and corporate social responsibility efforts. Companies interested in sponsorships, recruitment partnerships, executive education, or philanthropic initiatives are encouraged to explore DBU's Corporate Partnership online and reach out to a member of the Corporate Partnership Council with questions. SUMMER 2025 11 God led Michael Clayton (’74) from a neighboring community of Oak Cliff to attend DBU (then known as Dallas Baptist College) as part of a greater plan that would unfold over several decades. His story is a reminder that God continually leads His people along paths of His choosing, not according to our plans. As we walk closely with Jesus through every twist and turn in the journey, we end up exactly where we are meant to be. Clayton jumped headlong into campus life as a DBU student, participating in Ministerial Alliance, serving as senior class president, and working as the assistant to the former President Charles Pitts. Like several young men his age, he felt called to vocational ministry and continued on a traditional course after graduation, pastoring four churches, mentoring students, and serving with single adults. He earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received various certifications in nonprofit management, public speaking, and leadership training. His ministry journey eventually led him to preach in hundreds of churches and serve alongside notable leaders from that era such as Bill Weber, Bailey Smith, and Tom Elliff. However, in middle age, God’s surprising sovereignty came into play as Clayton’s career led him off the traditional path. God Opens Another Door Clayton began attracting a broader audience, including secular groups such as businesses, non-profits, and corporate organizations—teaching biblical principles in a winsome way without citing the Bible chapter and verse. To Clayton’s surprise, God opened doors to coaching, consulting, and leadership development in diverse industries. In what Clayton assumed would be his last career move before retirement, he served as the vice president of Advancement at Criswell College in Dallas. However, his attempt at retirement turned into yet another season of service as a consultant with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, where he assisted churches with fundraising and Cooperative Program giving. Today, Clayton reflects on how God prepared him for speaking to thousands, raising millions for non-profits, co-authoring an Amazon bestselling book, participating in nearly a thousand radio/TV interviews, meeting global leaders and preachers, and earning numerous accolades. Yet Clayton considers his family to be his greatest achievement. Shortly after graduating from DBU, he married Dee Olive. Almost 51 years later, they have built a life centered on faith and enjoy three adult children (two of whom also graduated from DBU), their spouses, and nine grandchildren. Ever ready for the next chapter God has in store, Clayton jokes, "It's not over until it's over, and Jesus hasn't called me home yet!" Scan the QR code for the full and inspiring story of how God directed Michael Clayton’s journey and the role DBU continues to play in his life. THE FAITHFUL SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD DBU Alum Michael Clayton “ Without Jesus in control, I would never enjoy His perfect will and direction for His unique path for my life.”

DBU REPORT 12 A UNIVERSITY Built onPrayer Inspired by Acts 12:4-17 when early church members held an all-night intercessory prayer meeting to save Peter from being killed by King Herod, Dr. Cook established a prayer ministry bringing together DBU faculty, staff, students, and 1,000 senior adult prayer partners. As he recalls, "The Lord did a miracle and saved Peter. I pleaded for a miracle." The cherished tradition of organized intercessory prayer continues today at DBU—and so do the miracles. A NEW CHALLENGE Today the Orville and Esther Beth Rogers Prayer Ministry at DBU has come a long way since the days of hand-written notes and requests. The Internet connects prayer partners worldwide under the leadership of Kristi Coleman, director of the Prayer Ministry and recently named Sheila Cook Chair of Prayer. What hasn’t changed over time is the University’s need for more intercession—and more intercessors—for guidance, wisdom, protection, and strength. The University is eager to grow their Patriot Prayer Partner network to over 2,000 participants in 2025. The invitation is open to everyone to help us meet this goal. New Patriot Prayer Partners can return the commitment card included in this edition of The DBU Report or join online at the dbu.edu/prayer. Become a Patriot Prayer Partner today and experience the power of prayer to transform lives and strengthen our University’s mission. Of all the significant stories in the family history of DBU, one that will resound for future generations is how DBU came to be known as a university built on prayer. When Chancellor Gary Cook became president in 1988 and the University faced an uncertain future, he sought divine guidance and called on prayer partners to join him.

SUMMER 2025 13 The gospels of Matthew and Luke record the poignant words of Jesus at the beginning of the Lord’s Prayer. Before He teaches them the model prayer, He says, “When you pray…” (Matthew 6:5; Luke 11:2). Jesus assumes that we will pray. He understands that we have a built-in desire and longing to connect with God. Through His comment, “When you pray,” we know that prayer is essential and is our direct connection to a divine resource. We depend upon prayer to ground us, to keep us strong, and to calm our turbulent thoughts and emotions. We also desire for God to answer, speak, and/or intervene on our behalf. We must never forget that the ultimate reward of prayer is God Himself, not what He may do for us. While we want His action on our behalf, we receive the blessing of His divine presence, and He is enough. Dallas Willard writes in Hearing God: “Our contentment lies not in his presents but in the presence of the One whose presents they are. In all our trials we are more than conquerors because, as we have seen, nothing shall be able to ‘separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 8:39).” We have confidence through prayer, even when we are unsure about the answer or outcome of prayer, and this confidence is centered upon the God we address when we pray. As the Psalmist says in Psalm 16:11, “In your presence there is fullness of joy.” The privilege of prayer is that we treasure this intimate, joyful, comforting connection with God, and through our prayers, He can mold us toward His ways, His values, and His heart. It is when we begin to value this connection with God that He redirects our own ways, values, and hearts so that we become aligned more with Him. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns His disciples not to pray with too many words “for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” What a promise! God already knows our needs before we ask Him. Embracing that truth helps us recognize prayer as a primary tool for God to rearrange our attitudes and BECOME A PATRIOT PRAYER PARTNER Return the commitment card in this issue or register online at dbu.edu/prayer. Patriot Prayer Partners receive a monthly email with the latest DBU prayer needs. Email prayer requests to prayer@dbu.edu or contact the Prayer Office at (214) 333-5235. wants. As God transforms us, then we are prepared for Him to do His work. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” The more I delight myself in the Lord, my desires change to become aligned with His plans, and therefore, God is answering and giving. The more God answers and gives, the more I delight myself in Him, and my desires are changed further to be aligned with Him. This cycle continues as these two phrases of Psalm 37:4 demonstrate God’s work in us, along with His answering of prayer. The major lesson of prayer is to be reminded that the great reward of prayer is God. What a privilege we have to connect directly to God through prayer. The work of God through prayer is woven throughout the history of DBU. The challenges and opportunities are different from years ago, but DBU people are still a praying people. Through the spiritual leadership of Dr. Adam C. Wright, the DBU Family continues the legacy of entrusting DBU to God’s direction and celebrating bountiful blessings that exceed expectations.
