38 Making its debut in the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2024–25, DBU Basketball had high hopes for its 2025–26 campaign. The Patriots built on their success from the previous season, claiming both the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship and the LSC Tournament Championship for the second consecutive season. With two titles under its belt, DBU also repeated as the host and top seed of the NCAA South Central Regional, the first part of the national tournament, advancing to the regional championship game. A group of all-conference selections led the Patriots’ offensive and defensive attacks throughout the season. First Team All-LSC honoree Xavion Brown established himself as one of the nation’s best defenders, earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award for the second straight year after averaging 2.4 steals per game. Brown was the heart of one of the most relentless defenses in the country. Brown turned defense into offense, posting LSC-highs in total assists (168) and assists per game (2.4). Two of the primary beneficiaries were Second Team All-LSC designee Trevor Frank and SUSTAINS EXCELLENCE IN CHAMPIONSHIP 2025–26 SEASON DBU BASKETBALL ATHLETICS ATHLETICS ATHLETICS Third Team member Drew Calderon. The duo lived on the outside, each knocking down more than each knocking down more than 70 three-pointers during the season. The offense extended beyond the perimeter, with Bishop Jones topping the team with 11.0 points per game and LSC Sixth Man of the Year TJ Thomas adding 9.7 points and 1.3 assists. DBU was a true team-centric squad in 2025–26. With a swarming full-court press and a deep bench, the Patriots forced the most steals of any team in the country (13.0) and finished fourth nationally in bench points per game (38.42). With a core of veteran leaders, including five seniors, DBU Basketball displayed a dynamic and exhilarating style of play that propelled the team to a 29–7 record, marking the third consecutive year in which the Patriots won at least 25 games. In his 20th year on University Hill, Head Coach Dr. Blake Flickner and his staff continue to elevate the standard for DBU Basketball. With nine NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 11 seasons and back-to-back regional hosting bids, he and his staff, including 10th-year Associate Head Coach Ryan Glenney, consistently engineer title-contending teams year in and year out while developing their players into better athletes and discipling them to be champions for Christ.
