Over the past decade, it has been an absolute joy to witness Dr. Wright’s servanthearted leadership on University Hill. I vividly recall meeting him 27 years ago and immediately recognizing his exceptional qualities. Having known him for nearly three decades, I have seen him consistently demonstrate everything I first recognized in him, and even more. 4 Dallas Baptist University has announced one of the largest gifts in its history from longtime supporters Jim and Julie Turner in support of the Carter School of Business. The transformational gift advances DBU’s STAND FIRM. STAND OUT. capital campaign and will help fund a new state-of-the-art business school facility, to be named Jim and Julie Turner Hall. “This is a moment of profound gratitude. The Turner family’s extraordinary generosity has not only helped us reach our original $60 million goal, but it has given us the confidence and momentum to dream even bigger,” said DBU President, Dr. Adam C. Wright. Dallas Baptist University has announced a $2 million gift from The Mitchell Foundation, established by longtime DBU supporters Lee Roy and Tandy Mitchell, to the Don and Linda Carter School of Business. 5 After a national search, DBU alumna Dr. Karla Hagan has been named Dean of the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education. Raised in Arlington in a Christian family with DBU ties, she earned degrees from Baylor, UNT, and DBU before teaching English, serving in kids ministry, writing curriculum, advising, and leading a micro-school. At DBU, Dr. Hagan served as adjunct professor, program director, instructor, Impact Program leader, SEA sponsor, Strategic Plan Committee co-chair, Faculty Council officer, and most recently the Sheila Cook Endowed Chair of Education. She shares that “it is a great gift to have served in these various capacities here at DBU over the years.” As dean, Dr. Hagan hopes to equip students as educators and missionaries, saying, “I hope to continue on University Hill to spread His name far and wide as we train this next generation of educators.” Together with her husband, Ron, the Hagans have three children and are members of First Baptist Arlington where they serve and mentor newly married couples. “Dr. Karla Hagan is a proven, collaborative leader in the College of Education and across campus. Her steadfast commitment to our Christ-centered mission uniquely equips her to lead as dean,” said DBU Provost, Dr. Norma Hedin. Linda Smith began serving in the University’s Mail Services Center in 1976. Fifty years later, she made history as the first employee to reach this milestone, honored by a campus grateful for faithful service. Linda’s legacy is rooted in family and faith. Her father, “Smitty,” also served at DBU, and his joy and love for the Lord are reflected in her life. A constant presence on University Hill, Linda has welcomed students, helped with mailbox combinations, greeted delivery drivers, and made the mailroom a place of kindness and care. DR. KARLA HAGAN NAMED DEAN OF DBU’S BUSH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HONORING LINDA SMITH’S LEGACY AT DALLAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY EQUIPPING SERVANT LEADERS IN EDUCATION: FIFTY YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE: Bobby Soto, now Senior Director of Enrollment Partnerships, reflected on the years he spent working alongside Linda in the mailroom as a student, sharing, “I learned so much from her, not only by what she said, but most importantly by her actions.” Because of her, Dallas Baptist University is not just a place where mail is delivered; it is a place where kindness is shared, faith is lived out, and lives are forever changed.
6 Dallas Baptist University has honored Dr. David Arnott with the title “Professor Emeritus,” recognizing 32 years of faithful teaching, mentorship, and scholarship. Known as “The Christian Economist,” Dr. Arnott has dedicated his career to helping students understand economics through a biblical worldview. He earned degrees from Greenville College, Texas A&M University–Commerce, and The University of Texas at Arlington. At DBU, he most recently served as Professor of Management, teaching economics and preparing generations of students to think critically about stewardship, markets, and leadership. Throughout his career, Dr. Arnott authored several works on leadership, management, and economics, including Biblical Economic Policy: Ten Scriptural Truths for Fiscal and Monetary Decision-Making, co-authored with Dr. Sergiy Saydometov. An accomplished speaker and global traveler, Dr. Arnott has visited more than 55 countries, leading business study visits and sharing practical insight on faith and the marketplace. He also hosts The Christian Economist Podcast, where he explores topics related to faith, economics, and public policy. During his 32 years at DBU, Dr. Arnott has faithfully invested in students who now serve in businesses, churches, nonprofits, and communities around the world. The Honors Program at Dallas Baptist University provides students ways to grow spiritually and academically through curated courses, enrichment, and faculty mentorship. Led by University Honors Program Director and Professor Dr. Philip Mitchell, the program integrates Scripture and classic literature from ancient Greece to present, challenging students to connect faith, learning, and future callings through study, research, and discussion. For more than twenty years, Dr. Mitchell has helped guide Honors Students as they prepare for careers in literature, theology, science, art, and other fields. Small, discussion-led classes complement DBU’s liberal arts mission of producing Christ-centered servant leaders while encouraging curiosity, imagination, and meaningful dialogue. Students also participate in Friday Honors Symposiums in Rogers Theatre, the annual Fall Retreat at the DBU Hospitality House at Mt. Lebanon Encampment, the Spring Conference, and the DOXA Literary Festival. To receive Honors recognition at commencement, students maintain a 3.5 GPA and complete a senior thesis or project presented before a panel prior to graduation. 7 Walking through Dallas Baptist University’s campus, the beauty is evident in well-groomed lawns and blooming flowers. Through dedicated time and effort, DBU has been recognized nationally with the 2025 Green Star Honor Award from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS). Each submission is evaluated by a 12-member panel of judges and recognized for demonstrating an outstanding display of grounds management maintained with a high degree of excellence. “This recognition reflects DBU’s ongoing commitment to excellence and stewardship,” says Senior Vice President Jonathan Teat. “The care invested in our campus environment demonstrates our dedication to creating a space that serves students, faculty, and guests with intentionality and distinction.” This is the first time DBU has received an Honor Award since 2018, and fourth time we have been recognized since the PGMS Green Star Awards Program began in 1973. The campus is one of nine University and College grounds nationwide, and one of two in Texas to obtain this achievement. Additionally, DBU is the only University in Texas to be recognized in the University and College Grounds of less than 250 acres category. Recognized nationwide, this award celebrates both the natural beauty of DBU’s campus and the exceptional work of the Landscaping team. 8 Dallas Baptist University’s Bush College of Education is pleased to announce that six students competed in the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) state conference, with all six advancing to the Educator Rising National Competition in Portland, Oregon, in June. This achievement is especially meaningful as it comes during DBU’s inaugural year as a collegiate chapter, reflecting the students’ dedication and commitment to excellence. Their journey began at the Area 11 Conference in October, where they qualified for state before earning a place at Nationals. Andrea Ayala wrote and illustrated “The Bubble,” Keke Carr delivered an Educator Rising Moment speech, Sarah Smith created Fast and Factorable, and Barb Blackmon designed a bulletin board on the Texas Regions before delivering a 25-minute impromptu lesson. Emerson Lippert-Goforth and Berean Matthews presented an Ethical Dilemma presentation on Artificial Intelligence in the classroom. “Participating in the TAFE competition was a wonderful opportunity to put into practice everything we are learning. It also allowed me to connect with fellow future educators as well as current professionals in the field, which made the experience even more meaningful,” said Andrea Ayala. Students presented to judges within strict time limits and were evaluated on product substance, delivery professionalism, and overall presentation quality. “We celebrate each of these students and the way they are representing DBU and the College of Education. I am so proud of them for saying ‘yes’ to this challenge over and above all that they are doing in their normal course load. 9 Dallas Baptist University students spent Spring Break learning and serving through mission and leadership trips. BEACH REACH At Beach Reach in South Padre Island, Texas, DBU’s Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) shared the gospel through van rides, pancakes, prayer, and conversations. Partnering with BSMs across Texas, the ministry saw 206 people come to know Christ, 49 recommitments, and 35 baptisms. DBU BSM Director Ryan Hodges shared that DBU students saw two recommitments, 46 new decisions, and 12 baptisms. DBU Student Matthew Ball encouraged other students to “pray bold prayers and just watch how God will answer and move.” BERLIN & AMSTERDAM In Berlin and Amsterdam, Dr. Jon Dooley, Dr. Jay Harley, Dr. H. Rick Jordan, and Dr. Blake Killingsworth led students in the study of Christian leadership in crisis. Students visited sites tied to Corrie ten Boom, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Niemöller, the Nuremberg Courthouse, Sachsenhausen, and Ravensbrück. “The impact I have seen on students is profound,” says Dr. Harley, DBU’s Vice President for Student Affairs. CIVIL RIGHTS TRIP Dr. Jack Goodyear, Dr. Rodney Garrett, and Prof. Tish Hearne led students through Little Rock, Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Jackson to study the Civil Rights Movement. Ph.D. student Exauce Madjibe Dijo said the National Civil Rights Museum “allowed me to walk, read, and experience the civil rights movement step by step.” CHAPEL WORSHIP RETREAT – COLORADO DBU’s Chapel Worship team traveled to Westcliffe for their annual songwriting retreat, spending time in Scripture, collaboration, and worship surrounded by the mountains. Inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:15–21, the team wrote new songs they look forward to sharing with the DBU community. WASHINGTON, D.C. In Washington, D.C., Dr. Adam C. Wright and Dr. Brent Taylor took a group of students to visited famous sites such as the Lincoln Memorial, the National Archives, and the Washington National Cathedral. The group also had the opportunity to meet with Senator James Lankford, followed by a tour of the U.S. Capitol. 13 Q: Q: Q: A: A: For the past decade, Dr. Adam C. Wright has led Dallas Baptist University with a steady commitment to Christ-centered excellence, guiding the institution through seasons of growth, challenge, and opportunity. As he marks 10 years of service as DBU’s President, Dr. Wright reflects on the milestones that have shaped the University, the lessons the Lord has taught him along the way, and the vision that continues to guide DBU into the future. Looking back over the past 10 years, what moments or milestones stand out most to you as President of DBU? Over the past decade, we have seen many meaningful milestones, but what stands out most is the Lord’s sustained faithfulness to DBU in every season. From campus expansion and new academic programs to record enrollment and strengthened partnerships, God has provided in ways only He can. The journey has not been without challenges, but through every hill and valley, the Lord has remained faithful. I am also deeply grateful for the DBU Family—a community of Patriots who continually show up, encourage one another, and remain steadfast in the mission God has entrusted to us. Above all, the most meaningful moments or milestones are not tied to buildings or numbers, but to lives transformed. Seeing students grow in their faith, be baptized in our Pool of Bethesda, discover their calling, and go out to serve Christ in their respective vocations remains the greatest evidence of God’s hand upon this institution. At my inauguration, I challenged those in attendance to imagine a university so consecrated that its singular focus would be set on loving God and loving others; so focused on being excellent in all things as a reflection of a perfect God; that we would aim to be that university. It brings great joy to reflect on the past 10 years and see the workings of God woven throughout, bringing that very vision to light on University Hill. When you began your presidency, what priorities did you feel the Lord placing on your heart for DBU, and how have those priorities evolved over the past decade? From the beginning, I sensed the Lord calling DBU not only to remain steadfast in its commitment to Christ-centered higher education, but to continue building upon the strong foundation already in place. That conviction has only deepened with time. When I stepped into the presidency, I was prayerfully considering how best to serve that vision. Three priorities quickly emerged: strengthening academic excellence, cultivating a vibrant spiritual life and campus community, and expanding DBU’s influence for the Kingdom both nationally and globally. Those priorities have remained steady, growing in scope and intentionality. Through it all, our calling has stayed the same, to build a great Christian university that is pleasing to God by producing Christ-centered servant leaders who are transforming the world. What aspects of serving as President of Dallas Baptist University do you find most rewarding? As we look ahead to the next chapter for DBU, what is your greatest hope and vision for the future of this institution and the next generation of Patriots? My greatest hope is that DBU will continue to be a place where Jesus Christ is exalted in every aspect of university life, and where students are prepared to lead with conviction, compassion, and a pursuit of the glory of God. We are living in a time that calls for leaders grounded in truth, equipped with godly wisdom, and committed to servant leadership. My vision is that DBU will continue to raise up graduates who are not only professionally prepared but spiritually anchored in the Gospel and committed to seeing transformation in the name of Jesus. Looking ahead, I believe the Lord is positioning DBU to serve as a beacon of Christ-centered higher education with an even greater reach. Our success is not measured by numbers alone, but by faithfulness to the calling God has placed on this institution. If we remain faithful, I am confident He will continue the work He has begun here in ways beyond what we could ask or imagine. Over the past 10 years, what lessons has the Lord taught you personally through serving as President of DBU? One of the most significant lessons the Lord has taught me is the importance of daily dependence on Him. Leadership brings opportunity, but it also brings challenges, and I am continually reminded that true wisdom, strength, and clarity come from God alone. I have also been reminded of the value of humility and the need to surround myself with wise, godly counsel. No one leads alone, and I am deeply grateful for those the Lord has placed around me who offer guidance, encouragement, and accountability. Every day presents opportunities not only to pour into others, but also to see God at work in the lives and relationships He brings across our path. I am especially thankful for friendships that have grown out of those divine connections. The Lord has reinforced in me the importance of faithfulness over outcomes. While it is easy to focus on results, our calling is to be faithful stewards of what has been entrusted to us and to trust Him with the outcome. During the past decade, what has life on University Hill looked like for your family and how have you navigated the balance between the demands of the presidency and family life? Life on University Hill has been a tremendous blessing for the Wright family. DBU is not simply a place where I serve; it is a community where we have lived, grown, and built meaningful relationships. Candice and I have had the privilege of being deeply engaged in the life of this campus for many years, and it has been especially meaningful to watch our daughters, Abigail and Kate, grow into strong young women of character, grounded in their faith, and pursuing the paths God has set before them. Balancing the responsibilities of the presidency with family life requires intentionality and discipline. There are seasons that demand significant time and attention, but by God’s grace, I have sought to remain present with my family, remembering that my first calling is to lead well as a husband and father. I am deeply grateful for a supportive and loving family who shares this calling to serve at DBU. In many ways, our journey on University Hill has been a shared one, and together we are grateful to call ourselves DBU Patriots. As DBU looks ahead, President Adam C. 20 On a quiet Wednesday during Holy Week, the Hillcrest Great Hall at Dallas Baptist University was filled with conversation, reflection, and a shared sense of purpose as the Women’s Auxiliary Board hosted the 2026 Bluebonnet Luncheon. The annual gathering brought together friends, supporters, students, and University leadership for more than a luncheon; it was a time to pause, reflect on God’s faithfulness, and celebrate the mission of DBU. Rooted in prayer and guided by a desire to invest in students, the event highlighted the impact of a Christ-centered education while raising support for student scholarships. From the beginning, the tone of the day was set with Scripture and prayer. Kaylee LaBarre, a freshman from Honolulu, Hawaii, shared a powerful recitation of Scripture reminding attendees of God’s intimate knowledge of His people, His constant presence, and His promise of comfort, guidance, and rest for those who trust in Him. Throughout the program, speakers emphasized that every detail of the event, from planning to participation, had been covered in prayer. Executive Director of the Women’s Auxiliary Board, Leslie Moulton, reflected on the heart behind the organization’s work and the opportunity to walk alongside students during some of the most formative years of their lives. “Our desire is to see students come to know Christ and grow in their faith during these years,” Leslie shared. “Through prayer, giving, and serving, we are investing in lives that will go on to make an eternal impact.” The Bluebonnet Luncheon Committee, led by Chairwoman Raschelle Loudenslager, played a significant role in bringing that vision to life. Their efforts not only created a welcoming and meaningful event but also advanced a shared goal of raising scholarship funds for DBU students. Before the luncheon even began, the committee had already raised $8,000 toward its $20,000 goal while fully underwriting the cost of the event. Raschelle encouraged guests to reflect on their presence at the luncheon, reminding them that their attendance was not by chance. “You are not here by accident,” she said. “You were here by divine appointment.” She also pointed to the broader impact of DBU’s mission, highlighting the University’s 432 international students representing 49 countries. For Raschelle, this diversity reflects a greater Kingdom vision, one where lives from around the world are shaped through faith and education. Wright addressed attendees. Speaking within the context of Holy Week, he reflected on the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the call to live out one’s faith with boldness and authenticity. “The rocks are ready to cry out,” he said. “But you have a voice. Use it.” Dr. Wright also reminded guests of DBU’s unique role in higher education. Among thousands of universities across the nation, he emphasized that DBU remains firmly committed to its identity as a Christ-centered institution. “The difference is Jesus,” he said. “We stand unapologetically for Christ and His Kingdom.” Perhaps the most powerful moments of the luncheon came through the voices of students, who shared firsthand how their experiences at DBU are shaping their lives and faith. Through Spring Break trips across the country and around the world, students Max Ellis, Haley Flemons, and Halle Hudgins described what it looks like to live out the University's mission.. Whether engaging in leadership studies in Washington, D.C., sharing the Gospel on the beaches of South Padre Island, or learning from historical examples of faith and courage in Europe, each story reflected a common thread: God is at work in and through DBU students. Haley shared how a mission trip led to life-changing conversations and decisions for Christ, while Halle spoke about the importance of obedience and trusting God’s calling, even in uncertain circumstances. Together, their testimonies offered a glimpse into the lasting impact of investing in students who are being equipped to serve both locally and globally. As the luncheon drew to a close, guests were invited to consider how they might continue to support the mission of DBU, whether through prayer, involvement, or financial giving. The Women’s Auxiliary Board continues to play a vital role in fostering these opportunities, creating meaningful ways for individuals to engage with and invest in the University’s work. In a final moment of reflection, Leslie expressed gratitude for the community gathered and the shared commitment to advancing DBU’s mission. “Thank you for the joy and honor it is to tell others how they can know Jesus,” she prayed. Set against the backdrop of Holy Week, the 2026 Bluebonnet Luncheon served as a powerful reminder that the work happening at DBU extends far beyond the classroom.
